Silicone Substrate serves the mechanical function of seed and plant support, but does not interact with the plant or nutrients in any other way.

Seeds sit directly on the Silicone Substrate, which is designed to wick water to the suspended seed, maintaining an oxygen-rich microenvironment during germination.
